Won't Boot After Saying "Resuming Windows"
I am trying to troubleshoot a problem with my parents Windows 7 ultimate PC. They are 14 hours away and I have no real way to look at the PC. They said when it boots, they will see text (like command prompt text and not a splash screen) that says "Resuming Windows" and then just a flashing cursor. They claim they cannot get to safe mode by pressing F8. They also say like they feel it completes the boot but they just can't see anything. I would try a recovery disk but their BIOS is not set to boot from DVD ROM and spent an hour with them trying to get the priority set and they can't... :( I am thinking it may be a video card issue but each time they "reboot", it always says Resuming Windows before the flashing cursor...so could it be a "hibernation of death"? Any suggestions

On most machines, you dont have to go into BIOS to get them to run a repair with the windows 7 disk, just put the disk in, turn the PC on, and where you normally press F2 for BIOS there should be another option for "boot options" (on a lot of PC's I have worked with, this is normally F12) If you press that, you are presented with a list of media to boot from, just select CD/DVD drive and it boots from there!

Hi, Thanks for the post. As SeanElliott says, please try to boot in Windows RE, then use System Recovery to recover a working state.
